A Dream World in Tel Aviv
My name is Uri Gera and I live with my wife Yael in Tel-Aviv, Israel. We know Darius for many, many years and we always enjoyed his art. We are lucky to be his friends, so when he starts working on a new painting we like we can say immediately – “we like it, we really want it in our home!”.
Israel is a country not easy to live in, so the house/apartment you live in has to be your refuge. You have to feel like you are in your dream world – a warm, protective place. Thus, the art in the apartment has a very important task in this creation.
For us it is not sufficient the painting is beautiful, but it has also to convey a certain atmosphere and to tell a story. That is exactly what we find in Darius’s art.
The first painting – dreamy landscape from Italy conveys total tranquility. And in this peaceful scenery are lots of people going around – enjoying themselves in the gardens and at the nature. In the lake there are boats in which we can imagine the passengers having fun sitting lazily in the sun. Viewing this picture, it is hard not to become optimistic!
The second picture conveys mystery. Who is the noble woman at the center, is she a queen? Who are the dignified people around her? What are they telling her? Why is the woman on the side so tranquil? It is very easy to build many stories around the picture. It makes you feel you are living in a very interesting world with a lot of it, not really understood.
And the statue of the sailor? – he has seen a lot, he is wise (though not smart as he is smoking…) and he is not hurrying anywhere – we all would like to be a little bit like him.
So Darius’s art makes our apartment a real journey! A curious and a beautiful journey!
The painting of the Italian lake, Lago Maggiore, is available as a print. (You can also ask me for a non-standard size).
