A Salute to Michael Falk

The art of Michael Falk, who lives not far from me, in Sde Warburg. (This is a farming community, originally founded by German refugees, and now a prosperous and well-established moshav). Michael came to Israel in the 1940s as a refugee from Germany (via Ireland). His work has been a source of inspiration for me for quite a while now, and I’d like to post a couple of his pictures here. Now 85 and not too well, this is my way of introducing him to you. His work can be viewed (and purchased) at the excellent Gina Gallery of Naive Art in Tel Aviv, and you can see more of his many works here.

The first picture here is entitled: “Gestapo Raid at my Parents’ Home, 1937” and shows the young Michael coming home from school to find agents searching his parents’ home for subversive material – which, despite themselves, they find pretty interesting reading.

The next picture is of Hagar and the Angel. Michael Falk has painted many pictures of the Bible, and this is one of my favourites:
