With Syria constantly in the news, I came across a beautiful website describing the traditional liturgical chanting of the Jewish congregation of Aleppo. The site was set up by the Syrian Jewish community in New York, and it links to recordings and explanations (in Hebrew) of their unique and nuanced chanting style. I want to try to explain, from my point of view, what it feels like to be living here in Israel in these critical and dangerous times. One of the friends I’ve made through my art, who lives in Oregon, wrote me this: “………How are you in Israel REALLY doing?”
