Bereishit – In the Beginning

This painting, entitled “Bereishit: In the Beginning” is intended to combine Hebrew text from the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) with a pictorial expression of the rather-impossible-to-imagine creation of the universe. Below is a translation of the verses I’ve included in the painting: The very beginning of the beginning of the Bible.

In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.

Now the earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep;

and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters.

And God said: ‘Let there be light.’ And there was light.
