Ten Commandments fine art poster: How this painting emerged
This contemporary Ten Commandments poster shows Moses on Mount Sinai holding the two tablets. A swirling colourful aura surounds him as he holds the two tablets of the Law. While out walking the dog one evening, I glimpsed an abstract painting through a window, and this inspired me to make this artwork. The picture I saw was a blur of shapes and colour but in my mind it was the form of Moses. Later I painted it exactly as I imagined it. The swirling sky emerged during the creative process and represents divine energy connecting Moses with heaven and earth.
It came to pass on the third day when it was morning, that there were thunder claps and lightning flashes, and a thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very powerful blast of a shofar. The entire nation that was in the camp shuddered. Moses brought the people out toward God from the camp, and they stood at the bottom of the mountain. And the entire Mount Sinai smoked because the Lord had descended upon it in fire, and its smoke ascended like the smoke of the kiln, and the entire mountain quaked violently. The sound of the shofar grew increasingly stronger; Moses would speak and God would answer him with a voice…. – Exodus Ch 19
After hanging for several years in our home, the original oil painting is now owned by a collector in the United States.
This is a companion piece to Parshat Yitro , which has a similar style, both in the swirling sky and in the use of colour.
